A riveting fusion of fact and fiction
Woven into a powerful storyline with great characters from this new author
Kathryn Novak is a brilliant Crown Prosecutor who has migrated from Canada to establish a new life in Australia, papering over a troubled childhood, now relegated to the deep recesses of her mind, marked never to be opened.
But her born again Aussie lifestyle is ruptured when the death of an unknown mother exhumes old scars, catapulting her into a murky, aphotic past and bringing her face to face with a brutal allied war crime. The chilling revelations that unfold force her to confront a monstrous truth that ultimately boils over in an avalanche of frightening consequences no one can contain.
Set in 1975 in Sydney, this compelling story with its origins at the end of WW2 has an international plot drawing on the influences of post war migrant settlements, the Vietnam War and a tumultuous period of NSW history when organised crime and corruption are pervasive.

Eyes of Madness eBook David Cole
What a fantastic read- the well developed characters and the sophisticated use of language together makes me feel richer for having read "Eyes of Madness". I'm not usually one for writing reviews- but when an authors first work is this good, it inspires one to spread the news. If you're a fan of history- especially segments of history you're not familiar with, then I'd strongly recommend this book. David Cole has thoroughly researched Sydney post WWII, and brought to life aspects of the US-Australian relationship that I certainly wasn't aware of. The story is lets you get to know the characters- and even find bits that you can identify with, and understand their struggles in the context of the age in which they are living. I hope there is more to come from David Cole. The work reminds me a lot of Jo Nesbo- for the well developed plot, and never knowing what is going to come next. You won't be disappointed.Product details

Eyes of Madness eBook David Cole Reviews
This is a great read! One of those books that is almost impossible to put down. David has done a tremendous job here because not only is it very well written and all weaves together brilliantly, but it is obviously well researched. It has taken me to a period in time, and I felt like I was actually there. As soon as I finished it my wife picked it up, and she couldn't put it down either!
I can't wait for David's next book. David you must write another one. You must!

Eyes of Madness has been a fantastic story which kept me spellbound and guessing what could happen next. I was hooked. The author enticed me with the timely release of sub plots building to the most unexpected part of "who was the father".
For a change, it so nice to go back in time pre IT and learn of the terrible time in peoples lives following war and destruction. While not nice at all, it did happen, and I knew of people who were affected exactly as the author says. Unfortunately, abuse of privilege continues today. Sydney mid 1970's was so neat, uncomplicated yet very normal to my lifetime.
A must read. What comes next? Potentially a further thriller and a film.....Hope so.
I read this book in a couple of days, staying up til 2 AM one night to see how it turned out over the last 100 pages. Excellent first novel, with a somewhat complex but very believable story line about the heroine, Kathryn Novak, discovering her roots and making a journey to understanding of herself and her parentage. The story packs a solid punch, with believable characters and some interesting historical perspective about the intersection of US troops on R&R from Viet Nam,transformation of a portion of Sydney into a primary attraction for these troops, and the creation of the organized crime underground in that city. Lots of twists and turns, official corruption, and a world war II tie in as well as the main story line interacts with the sub-plot about internecine wars within the organized crime element. You won't be disappointed with this book, and at 425 pages, you get your money's worth.
David takes you into an era of Australian background as if he had first hand knowledge. Well researched and highly readable. Holds you until the end.
I'm not sure where the eyes come in, it was a pretty good story. You can tell it was written quite some time ago, though. I like to read all kinds of books, but right now I'm liking newer, contemporary stories.
In any case, I feel this was well written and a fairly, on-track read.
I hope you agree with me.

This novel had good character and story development. Unlike most mysteries it had a deeper side. It examined pain and loss, madness and recovery and did so well with great kindness and love. I would not call it a real page turner as the messages were deep and required some quiet reflection. You may think I'm describing a "chick" book, bot that is not the case. The story line is plenty gritty. I greatly enjoyed "Eyes do Madness".
David Cole is a first time novelist and I think he is going to hit the big time. My favourite authors are John Grisham and Stephen Leather and this book is there with the best of Grisham, Stephen Leather, Lee Child and Stieg Larsen. Cole has captured the mind set and the time set of the 1970's perfectly. The story is set in Sydney predominantly, but it could have been Chicago or London. David Cole has clearly done some deep research. The story line is credible and exciting. Moreover, it leaves one thinking about it well after finishing the story. I read it over two nights and on the second night couldn't put it down till finished. I can't wait for his next book. I hope it is soon
