The EOS 70D is a mid-range SLR for enthusiast photographers that is an upgrade to the EOS 60D. It borrows many of the best elements from Canon's existing SLRs, inside, however, is a new sensor that offers 20.2MP resolution, but uses a Dual Pixel CMOS AF design in which each pixel is split into two separately-readable photodiodes, capable of phase detection autofocus in Live View and movie mode, working across 80% of the frame in very low light levels and apertures down to F11. Image processing is via a DIGIC 5+ processor.

Content excellent--hence the 4 stars. Packaging abysmal--negative 5 stars. This book cannot be read unless you are holding it open with both hands; as soon as you let go of either side, it closes. This is an operating manual for a complex piece of photographic equipment. In order to follow the instructions (which are meticulously executed) you need to have both hands free to hold and operate the camera. Duh! Ammonite Press, have you heard of spiral bindings that allow a book to be laid flat and stay open without human intervention?Product details

Great book for 70d owners, it is comprehensive and well written.
Great book!
I returned this book because it was not what I wanted. It's not a guide to the 70d that you can carry around in a camera bag, that will help with minute by minute use. It's printed on heavy paper and has many photos illustrating results the author (or whoever) obtained with different techniques. It does have reasonably complete instructions for using the camera, much better than those in the manual that comes with it, and more readable than the large version you can download from the Canon website. So I'd say it is ok if you want a decent explanation of how to use the 70d's features, but don't expect it to be useful as a tote-around guide.
It is an intense book with a lot of information to digest. It is just what I needed to go from a film camera to a digital camera.
I pre-ordered this book maybe over two months ago. The publishing date got pushed back and it ran past due but is it ever worth the wait. It is an expanded guide in a smaller format that fits nicely in the camera bag. Included inside the back cover is a handy quick reference card that pulls out. As technology changes the Canon 70D is now more capable and full of new features. Unless your a professional I recommend it for added understanding and better shots. They also offer guides for other DSLR's.
